The Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums were founded in 1974 to preserve and promote Scottish Gaelic arts and traditions. Continuing a musical tradition from a time out of memory, the band performs the great marches of the British Army, haunting Gaelic airs, and the beloved Scottish dances; strathspeys, reels, hornpipes, and jigs.
The band has performed in many hundreds of parades, concerts, civic and private events, winning several showcases of trophies and prizes. The band also competes against other pipe bands at highland games in Canada and the Midwest, and has won critical acclaim from judges and audiences. Having recorded for other organizations, the band’s first self-produced CD was released in March, 2008.
The band tartan is Ancient Sutherland.
